Senior Personal Tutor (Estoril, Portugal)

Greene’s provides a personal, exceptional and demanding academic experience that liberates students from a one-size-fits-all curriculum. Our commitment to the tutorial method of learning means that each student is taught individually or in small groups by tutors. Greene’s is non-selective, and enrols students with a broad range of backgrounds, previous educational experiences and interests.

All full-time students have a personal academic plan, are taught using the tutorial method, join a leadership and soft skills programme, and have their own Personal Tutor. Personal Tutors are responsible for providing students with strategic guidance with their studies, monitoring academic progress through weekly meetings, helping to develop independent study skills and ensuring general welfare.

About the role:

The Senior Personal Tutor is accountable for ensuring student academic progress and welfare – ensuring every student achieves and exceeds their academic objectives. Managing a team of personal tutors, liaising with subject tutors, providing academic and personal development guidance to students and feedback to parents, this person plays a key role in the development of a positive and successful learning culture that enables students to become engaged, effective and enthusiastic, independent learners.

General Responsibilities

  • Ensuring student academic progress
  • Training and managing a team of personal tutors
  • Liaising with subject tutors on academic matters
  • Student Welfare and personal development
  • Deputy Safeguarding Lead (DSL)
  • General university and careers guidance
  • Parental contact for academic and welfare matters
  • Student engagement and attendance
  • Developing and coordinating Leadership programme
  • Developing and coordinating Soft Skills programme
  • Assisting with official examinations (summer)

  • The ability to communicate accurately in both written and spoken English;
  • Excellent IT skills, including proficiency with office software programs, including spreadsheets, databases & word processing;
  • Excellent organisational and time management skills to plan and meet deadlines;
  • The ability to work cooperatively with others to set goals, resolve problems, and make decisions that enhance organisational effectiveness;
  • Previous experience with A levels highly desirable.
